Transport cash must be first step on road to improvement in Leeds - YEP Comment
The Government has today confirmed funding for major transport projects in the region.
They include plans for more extensive work on the electrification of the Leeds to Manchester Transpennine rail route.
Cash has also been pledged by the Government towards the creation of new railway stations at Thorpe Park and the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.
This newspaper has long campaigned for better transport infrastructure investment, as part of our Unlock the Gridlock campaign.
Packed trains, delayed services and crumbling facilities were all commonplace for commuters pre-pandemic.
Just because services were suspended in lockdown and demand dropped due to home-working, we have not forgotten how bad it was.
While this investment - which should improve rail connectivity and reliability - is welcomed, it must be the first step on the road to improvement for transport in Leeds.
