These campaigning Leeds residents are good neighbours and why we can all learn a lesson from them - The YEP says

They were the Leeds community who fought back against the bulldozers and stopped them in their tracks.

At the centre of this David and Goliath battle were the residents of Wordsworth Drive and Sugar Hill Close.

And at the very heart of the matter was their sense of maintaining the community they are so very proud to live in.

When developers threatened to tear down their pre-fab homes they waged war and people power prevailed.

Planning chiefs at Leeds City Council sided with them over the detrimental effect the new housing proposals would have on such a close knit community.

The families who live there are not only neighbours but they are friends.

They have not only watched their children grow up but their children’s children too.

They take elderly neighbours to the shop and offer support when it is needed most.

And these residents embody the real spirit of community which Leeds should be striving for – with good neighbours rooted firmly at its heart.
