Relief for businesses reopening their doors but please stick to social distancing - the YEP says

For the last three months the streets of our city centre have been eerily quiet in the face of lockdown.

The weekend - dubbed Super Saturday - signalled a return of visitors after many of the city centre’s bars, restaurants, salons and other businesses came out of hibernation.

The latest relaxation of lockdown measures were a welcome sigh of relief for many whose livelihoods depend on their businesses reopening.

However, there are still many more wondering when the restrictions will allow them to reopen again.

At the heart of this are stringent safety measures to support customers - from glasses screens, contactless payment and social distancing rules.

And to accommodate the measures, many businesses have been forced to rethink how they operate.

But despite the celebrations around this reopening of our economy people are being urged not to get carried away.

Safety must be a top priority and everyone must play a part to ensure it is not one step forward and two steps backwards with lockdown measures.
