Reader response to YEP article about meat eaters and their views on veganism

Research by Chris Bryant, PhD Candidate at the University of Bath, found that most meat-eating respondents viewed veganism as ethical in principle and good for the environment.

It showed that practical matters of taste, price, and convenience are the main barriers preventing more people from adopting veganism – not disagreement with the fundamental idea. This could have major implications for the future of the food industry as meat alternatives become tastier, cheaper and more widely available.

Paul Nutter. If it tastes nice I’ll eat it. Used to love soya meat at school and dog burgers from mobile stalls in town - neither of which had any meat.

Andrea Smith. If people want to adopt a life of eating meat, being a vegetarian or vegan, it’s a personal choice and it should be respected.

Steven Markey. Just stop pushing your diets on each other. Although if you don’t eat meat why make your food look like meat?

Kyrah Foley. Anything you can eat, we can eat vegan. The stereotypical pulses, lentils and tofu only vegans is so 1997.

Diana Verdi. Many vegans loved the taste of meat and therefore are creative with their cooking and make it look like meat.

Andrew Armer. Most land used for rearing meat animals in the UK can’t be farmed in any other way. Monoculture crop growing damages soil.
