The recent news announcements are alarming in relation to the increases in coronavirus cases nationally, much of which appears to be attributed to the younger members of society and especially those within the university community of some towns and cities.

Students are supposed to be the country’s future .

In my opinion many have already ignored the rules designed to protect people with some stating that when pubs close at 10pm they will simply move to other locations such as houses, apartments etc, thereby totally ignoring the rules in place to save lives.

The police need to be on the streets dealing with those breaking the rules but, being already stretched, how will that happen?

Apparently, it is already occurring within the student areas of Leeds, how irresponsible is that attitude which potentially ensures others are put at risk?

West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson must take whatever action is at his disposal, limited as it will be, to ensure the law is strongly applied.

There can be no excuse for the approach by mindless selfish people- and not just in students areas, but anyone who cannot see sense should feel

the full force of the law covering the current pandemic situation.

Offenders need dealing with swiftly and without mercy if lives are to be saved.
