I see that a well known insurance company is offering some relief for drivers on lockdown during Covid19, based on low or nil mileage over the past 12 months.

They quote a low figure of 1,000 miles. But are not specific as to how they intend to do this! Now I reckon this is a fair way to treat their customers; unless of course having said that it isn’t just a way of upping premiums based on higher mileage subsequently.

They are up to all the tricks. It’s the same with vehicle tax based on engine emissions.

If we are not using our vehicles and creating any, why should we be expected to pay for such, while others doing thousands of miles pay only the same amount?

For those cars subject to MOTs a fairer way to calculate emissions should be based on mileage between tests. Or are these suggestions just ‘pie in the sky’? I suspect they are!

But all things considered we motorists under lockdown just ain’t getting a fair deal. We can hardly call ‘it fair trading’.
