That organisation was very different from the NHS health industry which is developing behind closed doors today. NHS bosses now say things like all ‘this talk of privatisation is unhelpful’.

That’s because the impetus behind NHS England’s Long Term Plan is to ‘outsource’ different sections of NHS management and services to for-profit companies and multinationals.

It’s all done under the rationale ‘value for money’. Like PFI was, and what a disaster that has been. Imagine a health service where your cancer services company goes bust and the NHS does not have the capacity to redirect you somewhere else.

That’s the sort of future we are looking at if current plans go ahead. It may not be cancer, it may be diabetic services, gynaecology or bone disorders, or anything they’ve outsourced. The NHS is still on the table in the US Trade Deal, with no guarantee unless we kick up a fuss for Parliament to debate the NHS inclusion!

In the US in 2014 the third most common cause of death after cancer and heart disease, was preventable medical error. Is that what we want?

There are four more years of this government.
