It is sad to note there is still doom and gloom emanating from James Bovington (YEP letters, February 27) concerning the new blue British passport

It is this ‘totemic’ symbol of our nationality which seems to have upset him.

But typically as a Remainer he has allowed a few untruths to get in the way of the truth. Far from isolationism, ignorance and self destruction, this new blue passport (entwined with our national identity) gives travellers their identity as Europeans from the United Kingdom.

It means no more or less than that, being able to work and study under the blue passport. Colour should not alter the fact.

Any new rules concerning the EU travel may possibly alter that, but we shall see.

I found his churlish remarks against Priti Patel unfounded, she is a well educated woman MP who studied economics at Keele University and completed her postgraduate studies at the University of Essex.

Ms Patel is neither shallow, crass or fatuous. Had she been a LibDem supporter like James Bovington, and not the bringer of the a blue passport, that may not have coloured his opinion of her so much.

Secondly his assertion that former Yorkshire MEP Edward McMillan-Scott was a Conservative who said the blue document “was a symbol of the attitude prevailing the Conservative party towards the rest of Europe that is isolationist, ignorant and self destructive”.

This was in fact spouted by Edward McMillan-Scott - a Liberal Democrat since 2010, no surprise there.

This fault finding diatribe is so typical of the uncompromising attitude that some Remainers still adopt but it will change nothing.

This country needs forward thinking, intelligent, industrious people to work towards a better independent Britain. Our standing in the world will never diminish.

I sincerely hope this view is taken by the rest of the population, even if they lost the vote. Those who have already thrown in the towel need not apply.
