Leeds Rhinos have made our city proud and they did it for Rob Burrow - the YEP says

This season was all about one man – Leeds Rhinos’ legend Rob Burrow who is facing an opponent like no other.

Rob’s battle with motor neurone disease has not only left a lasting impression on the world of sport but beyond as he tackles the condition head on.

Not only had the team pledged to win the cup for him but they also wore their 2021 home kit for the first time which includes seven bands in honour of Rob.

Despite being unable to travel to the match, his inspirational presence as the RFL’s guest of honour could be felt in the sheer resolve of the team who were determined to make Rob and his family proud.

Before the match captain Luke Gale spoke of his pride at being able to don the number seven shirt and hoped he could lead by example and put a smile on Rob’s face.

Adversity throws up so many challenges but the team have tackled this head on – they’ve made the city proud and above all they did it for one of their own.
