This newspaper, which recently launched its Unlock the Gridlock campaign, knows too well the issues our readers face getting from one side of the city to another.

Whether it's by bus, car, train, or cycling there are a number of hurdles thrown in the way. Be that reliability of services, the fear of being stuck in congestion through to being able to use cycle lanes safely.

The transport jigsaw is a complicated puzzle but it seems as our city is finally getting on track to examining how our transport woes can be reduced once and for all.

Mr Shapps said he wants passengers to see "real and tangible improvements across the network as soon as possible".

But this is on the start of that process.

In the latest part of the jigsaw puzzle is the welcome news that transport chiefs in West Yorkshire are looking at additional research into the implications of bus franchising. While this isn't a cemented commitment to franchising it certainly puts the model under the microscope to see what the process would involve.

But these plans will all take time to come to fruition.

Therefore, it is absolutely vital that Leeds is given the power to kick this transport revolution up a gear to make sure our doesn’t remain stuck in the slow lane any longer.
