Leeds Bradford Airport Parkside Station will be too far away - YEP letters

The Parkside Rail Station, which is intended to be a link to Leeds/Bradford Airport, saga trundles on.

The so-called rail link in fact is never going to function as a true rail link and has been doomed a failure from the outset by many people including experts, but not members of the governing Leeds City Council.

LCC leader Judith Blake states that ambition is something her and fellow Labour council colleagues have expressed repeatedly to Secretaries of State.

Whilst the Department of Transport has shown a lot of interest many say it will be a station too far from the airport which it is supposed to serve, therefore it will be useless. LCC has again failed to come up with a sensible scheme by way of a viable transport link to Leeds/Bradford airport and wasted millions in the fruitless process.

Andrew Carter, leader of the council Conservatives group, stated in the YEP on January 9 that the rail link terminating at Parkway station would be too far from the airport and rightly complains that those using the station would be required to continue their journey to the airport by other means.

To do so in inclement weather, without cover, will be ridiculous to put it mildly. Such observations emphasise the link is not actually a link at all, with those comments having been voiced time and time again with all appearing to have fallen on the deaf ears within LCC.

Reader Warren Smith (YEP letters, January 13, asks “Why not build a station at the airport instead of Parkside?” Many will have asked the same question and will continue to do so.
