How Leeds Black Lives Matters movement can be a catalyst for young people - the YEP says

But perhaps now we need to turn our attention to the inequalities and issues facing our city’s young people.

It has been well documented that pockets of our city have real challenges around deprivation and sadly children and young people themselves are no strangers to this.

In recent months we have seen movements such as Black Lives Matter providing a catalyst for real change.

And it is great to see young people rallying together to create a platform for ‘young black voices to be heard’.

Organised as part of International Youth Day, the virtual Black Youth Engagement Summit event will highlight the ‘exceptional work’ of young people in Leeds and across the country in fighting racial inequality.

No longer should young people’s voices be left out of the conversation.

And at the heart of this is a determined group of young people who must be heard loud and clear.
