Both the council’s leader and chief executive gave a stark picture of life in the coming months, as Leeds is expected to remain within the measures “for as long as it takes”.

While this throws Christmas plans for families into doubt, the authority said it simply didn’t know whether the restrictions would remain in place for the festive season.

Each and every one of us has a role to play in keeping each other safe.

People need to know exactly what is expected of them to avoid any confusion around what the new measures mean.

And we all have a part to play in ensuring that we don’t mix with other households or those who are not in our ‘bubbles’.

It’s tough to be parted from friends and family again but if we all do the right thing now then there will be a chance to spend Christmas surrounded by our loved ones.
