Cycle lanes to blame for traffic chaos in Leeds - YEP letters

I think everybody is sick of this council’s plans for the future.

PJ Spence, Stanningley

They are not working but are making things worse. Can’t they see or are they blind to the fact that it is they that have caused the problems?

Take the cycle lane for instance. If you ask people 90 per cent of them will tell you they are a waste of time, are unused and causing the congestion we are having by not being able to use the full width of the road. So, why don’t they look at the mess they have caused and do something about it?

I totally agree with Shaun Kavanagh’s comments in the YEP letters page on Wednesday, January 8, but no matter what the general public seem to say they carry on regardless!

Ninety per cent of people you ask think they are a waste of time and money and are not used, causing more congestion and pollution by the traffic not being able to use the full width of the road, causing the traffic to back up. If you are behind a bus and it needs to stop for passengers you have to stop and so does the rest of the traffic behind you, which causes fumes from standing starts from many vehicles hundreds of times a day. Do the councillors ever look and see what they have caused? Now they are blaming everything but their decisions on the state of the chaos.

Anybody can see if you stop the flow of traffic it causes a big problem but it seems none of the councillors are able to see it. We are experiencing this throughout Leeds, in particular in our area from Dawsons Corner though Stanningley to Bramley, the traffic is at a standstill many times a day. I hope the councillors read this and realise that they have to be accountable for their decisions.
