Covid means city's hospitals must walk a fine line - the YEP says

Coronavirus and the fight against it is rightly all-consuming. It is at the forefront of everyone’s minds especially for those at our city’s hospitals.

For those running our health services it’s a fine line between protecting the NHS, the staff who work there as well as those patients admitted with coronavirus.

This is only further exacerbated with the number of non-Covid patients who still need that vital support from the health service we all treasure.

But we must not forget that people, sadly like Toni Cunnington, are dealing with issues beyond coronavirus.

Put simply, heartbreak does not stop for the virus.

While the number of people sent for urgent cancer investigations at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust has risen to pre-pandemic levels, there are still concerns that new Covid cases will have an impact on services especially during winter.

The NHS truly is a lifeline for so many people who depend on it.
