Victor Orta and team have certainly delivered on signings - now we just need some fans in Elland Road

It seems like a long time since supporters were seen- and heard - inside Elland Road...but plans are well underway to find a fair solution as to who will be allowed back in the stands once the go-ahead is given for the fans’ return. The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust reports on the latest.

In the Trust’s previous article in the Yorkshire Evening Post, we spoke of Leeds fans craving some quality, big money signings that would improve Marcelo’s squad for the new season in the Premier League.

Well, Victor Orta and his team have certainly delivered, giving us Rodrigo and Robin Koch, two experienced internationals who appear to be well suited to Bielsa-ball.

It’s obviously a shame to miss out on Ben White, despite our fans’ best attempts to ‘free him’, but he’s signed a new contract with Brighton so we must simply remember his time at Leeds fondly and wish him well (unless he’s playing against us, obviously).

The Trust also mentioned in the last article that we were looking into the plans at the club for fans to return to matches at Elland Road when it is safe to do so.

This was raised in a one-to-one meeting with Angus Kinnear.

It became clear that the club’s intention was to hold a ballot for each match to decide who would be given tickets during the period where the ground is open but it has a significantly reduced capacity in line with government guidelines.

This ballot method is being adopted by many other top-flight teams.

The Trust are keen to ensure that the fans’ voices are heard in relation to who would be included in a ballot in the first place.

We surveyed our members over the last week to see what they thought. The responses showed that the majority felt that all tickets should go uniquely to the club’s season ticket holders, whilst around a quarter felt that a small amount of tickets should be accessible to the club’s gold members. The survey also asked how season ticket holders would like to be refunded for games they were unable to attend due to the current restrictions.

The majority felt that a credit against future tickets would be preferable, whereas roughly a fifth wanted a full cash refund and the same again for a bundle of club discounts and benefits.

We will feed back the full details of the survey to Angus Kinnear so that the club can take it into proper consideration when making a final decision on the ballot and refund processes. Our aim has always been to simply make sure it is done in the fairest way possible.

A further concern amongst the club’s fanbase is that the Sky broadcasting deal with the Premier League for the coming season does not currently allow the club to live stream any games through LUTV.

The Trust fully supports the campaign by the Football Supporters’ Association for the Premier League to resolve this issue for the sake of all football fans.
