Emma Jones: At no time have Leeds United settled for a result - we go to the end

It’s easy at times this season to forget we’re a newly promoted side in the Premier League when you hear pundits and other fans talk about us, writes LUTV presenter Emma Jones.

It’s easy at times this season to forget we’re a newly promoted side in the Premier League when you hear pundits and other fans talk about us. The majority of this squad were part of the title winning team in the Championship and yet, in less than six months, we’re being directly compared with established and big spending top-flight clubs.

Remembering how far we’ve come so quickly only makes our current position in the table even sweeter.

The accomplishment of reaching 35 points in 25 games would be good enough for any newly promoted side, but doing it in the way we have done it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

What makes us so appealing to the neutrals is our desire to go for it in every game.

No team in the division has drawn fewer games than us. Just twice have we picked up a single point and that proves just what you can achieve with belief and purpose.

It also means at no time have we sat back and settled for a result.

We go to the very end. Exhilarating for us and no doubt exciting for the neutral as we shake up their expectations of a ‘mid-table clash’

The Southampton game was a perfect example.

We went toe to toe with a decent team in the first half, but the Saints had to be at their very best to make life uncomfortable for us and they were never going to be able to maintain that.

Our quality finishing and fitness are so hard to deal with that blowing them away in the second 45 minutes was inevitable and great to watch.

Episode nine of the Official Leeds United podcast is out this week, with more insight from Patrick Bamford on life at the club.

This week he chats about preparation for a match day and exactly what Marcelo Bielsa says (shouts) at him during a game.

He also reveals a rather unusual pre-match ritual that contributes to the sweet smell of success.

It’s been great to get to know Patrick so well over the last few months on the pod.

He’s humble, honest and thoroughly deserving of the season he’s having. Long may it continue!

And hopefully I’ll be introducing him on future episodes as ‘England international, Patrick Bamford.’
