And yesterday former heart patients across the region showed off their scars like badges of honour, for a Leeds charity’s annual #scarselfie day.

Each year, the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) celebrates #scarselfie day - an online event encouraging former patients to showcase their scars “with pride”.

Coinciding with National Selfie Day yesterday, #scarselfie day aims to raise awareness of the bravery of those who have undergone heart surgery, and to raise vital funds for the charity that helps the heart unit at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

The bravery of these patients, not just to battle on in the face of such adversity, but to show off their scars to raise awareness, is truly humbling.
