New sculpture at Leeds attraction designed by pupil, 11

STockeld Park in north Leeds has unveiled its latest sculpture designed by an imaginative school pupil.

The attraction’s new themed play area ‘The Book of Books’ now boasts a sculpture designed by Travis Bedford, 11, of Abbey Park Academy in North Yorkshire. As well as seeing his idea brought to life at the park, the win has also netted his school £500.

Stockeld Park’s ongoing sculpture competition sees hundreds enter their unique creations in the hope of having them made a reality by the park’s talented sculptors and artists. This year will see the park search for its 10th sculpture winner, to create interactive art for the Enchanted Forest.

Park owner Susie Grant said: “The sculptures are a huge part of the magic here at Stockeld, it means a lot to us that our young visitors can contribute to the growth of the park in a really fun and imaginative way.

“From sketch to sculpture, the creations themselves can often take years to realise. However, the last 24 months has seen several new exciting additions to The Enchanted Forest, many of which have been developed from ideas by local school children, everyone here at Stockeld is really proud of them.”
