Long-standing pubs the Midnight Bell and Cross Keys are once again becoming a social spot for workers having a pint on the way home as they would have done a hundred years ago-even if it is now a craft beer- and there are several cafes feeding the workforce from Out of the Woods that opened 11 years ago to Taste which opened six months ago.

Ross Stringer, owner of Out of The Woods said: “We have got the vibe back that we had ten or 11 years ago. There was a vibrant community feel that dropped off during the recession but with the new businesses in the area, that footfall is back to what it was.”

Ian Hargreaves already has a business in Round Foundry and saw an opportunity to cater for another market with Taste.

He said: “We felt there were enough people in that area and the demographic. Some will always go to Tesco Express but the people we expected to come did come and we have built up a good following.

“The next thing for us is to do external catering next year for the estate around us but not to take away from what we are doing every day.”
