MP leads tributes after Mayor’s death
TRIBUTES have been paid to Wakefield mayor Councillor Brian Holmes after his death on Monday night.
The grandfather, who had been the city’s mayor since May and a long-standing councillor in the Horbury and South Ossett ward, had celebrated his 75th birthday last Friday. Coun Holmes was married to Coun Janet Holmes, a former mayor of Wakefield and current mayoress. Wakefield MP Mary Creagh said: “Brian was an outstanding Mayor, councillor and friend.”
A book of condolence has been opened at Wakefield Cathedral.
