A TOY appeal has been launched aimed at ensuring all disadvantaged  children in Leeds and West Yorkshire have a present to open this Christmas.

Radio Aire launched its annual Yorkshire Evening Post-backed 2018 Mission Christmas appeal during an event at B&M’s Armley store.

The appeal invites people to buy one extra gift to help thousands of disadvantaged children across the county.

Last year’s Mission Christmas appeal supported 25,553 children in West Yorkshire.

Caroline and Ant from Radio Aire’s Breakfast show, said: “Mission Christmas is such an amazing way for people to act in the true spirit of the season and give a little something to disadvantaged young people who really do deserve it”

“Even one child living in poverty is too many, but with thousands in Leeds and West Yorkshire in that position Mission Christmas gives everyone the opportunity to make a real difference and bring back the magic of Christmas to these children.”

“It’s easy to take part, all you need to do is buy one extra gift before December 18 and hand it in to one of our many collection points.

“Or you can text AIRE to 70808 to donate £5 and we will buy a gift on your behalf. “

This year Leeds Mission HQ, which acts as a hub for the receipt, sorting and distribution of gifts, is at The Store Room, Millshaw, Leeds LS11 8EG.

Mission Christmas is run by Cash For Kids which is supported by Bauer Radio’s regional stations, including Radio Aire.

The appeal is supported by B&M and hundreds of volunteers who help sort and distribute gifts.

A B&M spokeswoman, said: “We’re really proud to be supporting the Mission Christmas campaign again this year.”

Lisa Sullivan Radio Aire’s Charity Manager said: “This year we expect to receive a record number of applications and want to be able to help over 26,000 local children.

“We can only do this with the generosity and support of our listeners and the readers of the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"We would like to say big thanks to B&M for their amazing support and to Ringways Motor Group for donating our two Mission Christmas vans.”

Supporters of the campaign can take their gifts to a number of drop-off points listed on the Radio Aire website.
