Missing tortoise could die in cold weather

Appeals have gone out for visitors to a north Leeds woodland to keep an eye out for a missing tortoise.

The 60-year-old reptile is thought to be in or near to Wigton Moor Woods, in Alwoodley, after escaping from his home over the weekend.

His owners are worried that he may not survive the cold weather and are desperate for his safe return.

An appeal to find him was posted by the Friends of Wigton Moor Primary School on their Facebook page.

Tortoises have one of the longest lifespans of any animal, living for 40-70 years as pets with good care. They can even exceed 100.

Contact the primary school if you have any information.
