The Take Over Café has been set up at Inkwell Arts, a Leeds Mind project in Chapel Allerton, to help young people aged 12 to 17 who may be struggling at home or in school and may experience bullying or isolation.

The idea came from one of Inkwell’s placement students, Jonathan De-Aston, who recognised the need for a youth service in north Leeds.

The evening sessions comprise of craft activities like jewellery making and painting as well as quizzes, team games and other activities. Visitors can also play games, listen to music or watch films.

Jonathan said: “I recognised the need for young people to enjoy themselves in a place where they feel valued and important.

“It seemed natural for the Take Over Café to provide creative activities, as we know this helps people to relax, try something new, build friendships and boost confidence.”

Sessions will run on the first and third Thursday of every month from 6pm to 9pm. Entry costs £1.50 and includes craft materials and a meal. The next session will take place on Thursday April 7.
