Fire crews had to secure the van first because of it's dangerous position.

They then using specialised cutting equipment to tunnel through the side of the vehicle to reach Mr Dulson.

Incident commander Phil Swallow, who Mr Dulson met on Monday, crawled in and spoke to Mr Dulson before a paramedic assessed his injuries.

In the video he explains why the rescue was one of the most challenging rescues they had ever come across.

Mr Dulson was conscious through the two hour long ordeal where he hung upside down in the driver's seat with two broken legs.

When fire crews finally retrieved Mr Dulson from the wreckage, he was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary.

Since then he has had over five operations to try and reconstruct his legs.

Surgeons have inserted metals pins into the bones of his left leg to help it heal and he has undergone a skin graft.

In the video he explains how grateful he is for the work of the firefighters.

Mr Dulson said: "I honestly cant put into words what they did for me. Without them I might not have my legs, I might not be walking.

"It could have been a completely different story."

A total of 14 fire crews were involved in the rescue.

Crews from Garforth Fire Station were first on the scene, followed by Wetherby, Killingbeck and Cleckheaton Fire Station's technical rescue unit.
