West Yorkshire Police confirmed that they received a report at 8.30am that a woman was on the footbridge over the M621 near to Tunstall Road, Leeds.

At 8.30am today, police were called to reports of a female on the wrong side of railings on a footbridge over the M621 near to Tunstall Road, Leeds.

The motorway was closed in both direction while emergency services responded.

The female was brought to safety shortly before 9.30am.

Highways England confirmed at 9.45am that the M621 had reopened.

It said: "The incident closing the #M621 #J7 (#Stourton) to #J4 (#Hunslet) in both directions has resolved and the road is now open."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 8.30am today, police were called to reports of a female on the wrong side of railings on a footbridge over the M621 near to Tunstall Road, Leeds.

"A road closure was put in place while emergency services responded. The female was brought to safety shortly before 9.30am and the road reopened."
