M62 near Leeds reopens after serious lorry crash closed motorway overnight

The M62 near Leeds has reopened this morning following a serious crash last night.

It happened at abut 8.40pm on Monday, May 10.

The M62 westbound was closed between J31 for Normanton and J30 for Rothwell.

Drivers were warned to avoid the area by Highways England.

Traffic officers and the air ambulance attended the scene.

The road reopened at 5.30am on Tuesday, May 11.

Highways England said: M62 westbound full closure J31 to J30 has now been removed.

"Traffic is flowing freely in all lanes."

Lane three was opened at around 10pm on Monday, but lane 1 and 2 remained closed.

At the time, West Yorkshire police said: "The force tweeted: "***INCIDENT M62 JUNCTION 31 WEST*** Please be aware there is an incident on the M62.

"Lane 3 is now open.

"Lane 1 and 2 are likely to be closed for some considerable time.

"There may be some delays and we thank the public for their patience whilst we deal with this incident."

Highways England earlier said: "The M62 is closed westbound J31-J30 due to a collision.

"Emergency Services, including West Yorkshire Police are in attendance. An Air Ambulance has left scene.

"Delays are likely on the approach to this closure, with additional journey times also expected on diversion routes."

West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for a full statement.
