M62 carriageway near Leeds fully closed by emergency services due to serious crash

The M62 carriageway near Leeds has been fully closed by the emergency services following a serious crash.

The M62 westbound is currently closed between J31 for Normanton and J30 for Rothwell.

Drivers have been warned to avoid the area by Highways England.

Traffic officers and the air ambulance are currently on the scene.

Highways England said: "The M62 is closed westbound J31-J30 due to a collision.

"Emergency Services, including West Yorkshire Police are in attendance. An Air Ambulance has left scene.

"Delays are likely on the approach to this closure, with additional journey times also expected on diversion routes.

DIVERSION UPDATE:

Traffic is diverted as follows:

Vehicles 15 feet 9 inches and lower than this height are to follow the hollow square symbol, via the A655, A639 and A642.

Vehicles above 15 feet 9 inches in height are to follow the hollow circle symbol, via the A655, M62 eastbound to J32a, A1M north, A63, M1 south to the Lofthouse interchange to re-join the M62.
