A Leeds church will have that loving feeling this weekend when it stages a truly heavenly occasion for the city's romantics.

St Saviour’s Church in Richmond Hill is giving people the chance to renew their wedding vows at a special service taking place on Sunday.

The event is open to couples who got married at St Saviour’s as well as those who tied the knot elsewhere.

And interim parish priest Father Darren Percival is hopeful the service of “love and commitment” will capture the public’s hearts during the run-up to Valentine’s Day.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I have been here since April last year and what we have been trying to do is bring the church and the community together.

“This service is a continuation of that. It won’t be fire and brimstone, it will be a celebration of the commitment that the couples have made to each other.

“We don’t do a lot of weddings these days but I have been in touch with everyone who has had their banns of marriage read here recently. It should be an uplifting afternoon.”

Sunday’s service starts at 4pm and will conclude with a tasty-sounding combination of cake and prosecco.

Couples can just come along on the day or ring Fr Percival in advance on 07960 555609.

Meanwhile, the YEP has been running a Valentine’s Day competition asking readers what makes their partner special and we will be printing a selection of the best entries from tomorrow.

The winner of the competition and its first prize of a £100 Trinity Leeds voucher will be announced in Tuesday’s paper.
