United have announced that Greenpeace’s logo will appear on the front of the club’s junior replica shirts this coming season.

And every time one of the shirts is sold, a £5 donation will be made to the Greenpeace Environmental Trust, helping a campaign to protect the world’s rainforests.

United’s main shirt sponsor this season will be online betting firm 32Red but football advertising rules ban the promotion of gaming companies on junior kits.

Leeds’s executive director, Paul Bell, said: “We are delighted to have entered into this unique partnership with Greenpeace, the first time that the organisation has ever worked with a football club in this way.

“Throughout the season we will work closely with the organisation and use our marketing platforms to help Greenpeace raise awareness of some of the major environmental issues facing the planet and help highlight how we can all protect our environment.”

Greenpeace UK’s executive director, John Sauven, said: “We’re really excited that Leeds United have decided to team up with us to protect the world’s rainforests.”

He added: “We hope the universal language of football will help to inspire a new generation of young people to make a stand against the destruction of some of the world’s most precious environments.”

United announced 32Red as their new main shirt sponsor in May.

The company’s logo is expected to appear on Leeds’s playing and adult replica home shirts in blue rather than its usual red because of the latter colour’s associations with the club’s old rivals Manchester United.
