It is believed the fumes were the result of an unknown substance reacting with cleaning fluid being used by staff.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “Specialist officers and West Yorkshire Fire Service are now working to establish the nature of the substance.”

The main station has remained open and the incident is not affecting train services. The police cordon at the concourse was lifted at around 12.15pm.
