Officers including armed police attended the scene and the National Police Air Service helicopter was also drafted in.

Detective Superintendent Jim Dunkerley, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said earlier today that a full investigation was under way.

In a further update, he told the YEP: “Whilst it is very early days in the investigation, it is believed to be a targeted offence and there is no wider risk to the general public.”

Patrols are continuing in the area today as enquiries continue into events surrounding the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to call police via 101, quoting log 1730 of August 1.
