Leeds city centre to get new sauna and cold-water plunge pools
Plans for a new cold-water pool facility in Leeds have been approved.
A full planning application for the installation of a sauna and three cold plunge pools in the city centre was approved by Leeds City Council’s planning committee this week.
Submitted by Charlotte Clayson and Will Graham of Urban Dip Limited, incorporated with Companies House in December of last year, the plans concern a private yard on 54 Brussels Street, near Leeds Bus Station.

The site will feature a freestanding wood-fired sauna for a maximum of 10 people, the applicants wrote, and three freestanding cold plunge tubs will be placed on a temporary, removable decking area.
“An external cold-water rinse shower, and a single external electrical socket will be installed on the outside wall of the commercial unit to serve the equipment,” Urban Dip added in the application form.
“Overall,” they continued, “the proposal represents a proportionate and well-considered enhancement to an existing commercial premises, supporting wellbeing-focused activity in a sustainable and accessible city-centre location.”
On granting the project full planning permission, subject to conditions, on March 24, Leeds Council’s planning officer stated: “The uses proposed are supported in principle as they have potential to promote local economic growth, jobs and skills provision, provide a local service to the community and promote activity and vitality in the area.
“In summary, it is considered that, subject to the recommended conditions, the proposed change of use is supported by Development Plan policies relating to use, access, highways and amenity matters as specified above, and therefore the application is recommended for approval.”
