Leeds recommends: Yorkshire staycations

Sam Walker. Can’t beat Littondale.

Alice McDougall. Whitby. It just has everything, Quaint, friendly, lots to do for all ages. It’s improved a lot in recent years and has pitched itself just right. There’s nowhere else like it in the UK, it’s got such a unique charm.

Michael Lucas. Malton. It may not be an obvious glamour destination, but the food and drink scene is thriving and it’s justified in calling itself a ‘foodie capital’. The food festivals are good to build a weekend around, but there’s also Eden Camp nearby, which is a fantastic WW2 museum, and other attractions too.

Samantha Collingwood. Richmond is very quaint, a charming market town with a great arts centre. I always think it’s a shame its railway station closed. Great countryside nearby and nice stately homes to visit.

Sean Conlan. Skipton for its proximity to the Dales. Can spend all day out walking then return and check out its nice shops and pubs.

Tim Swain. I really like Beverley. It’s got great shopping and a really good cafe culture, plus the Minster is worth checking out for its food and craft fairs. The races are worth a visit too.

Ian Shaw. Big fan of Scarborough, which is really improving. Still a great family destination, and the new waterpark should boost that more. Peasholm Park is a favourite and there is such a lot for the kids to do.

Jenny Guthrie. Anywhere near Aysgarth - a lovely part of the world with great walking on your doorstep.

Jane Simpson. Pickering purely to ride the North York Moors Railway. It’s an amazing asset to have and the events they run are excellent for all age groups.

Sana Akram. Bridlington is often overlooked but is great for families. The Old Town is nice for a wander and other parts are getting better. Lots of choice for traditional seaside entertainment.

Marc Holland. Filey - a little gem. Lovely beach and park and some nice little shops to explore. Good fish and chips too.

Anna Kerrin. Ilkley has a lot of charm, and the shopping and dining is very good now. A walk up the Cow and Calf is essential of course, and there are great events throughout the year, like the literary festival.

Maddie Hunt. I love Whitby, the place is simply stunning. Harbour boat trips and crabbing are the highlights for me. There always seem to be new shops and cafes to explore.

Tony Drayton. I’d say Northallerton, because the food and drink scene is very good there. Nice countryside to explore in the surrounding area too.

Jessica Ancrum. Harrogate. Unique shopping, with some brands you won’t find elsewhere in Yorkshire or the north-east. Lovely history, the Stray and the Turkish baths. A good choice of hotels too.

Adam Shoat. Settle - if you’re into cycling, there are good road routes and trails in the area.

Tamsin Clarkson. Surely it has to be York? It’s a destination that draws people from all over the world.
