Leeds recommends: Outdoor drinking spots

Now we've had a taste of summer, we asked the #Leedsrecommends community to suggest their favourite beer gardens, roof terraces and outdoor drinking spots in Leeds and further afield.

John Laird. Headrow House’s roof terrace bar. Great place to catch some rays, with comfy seating and food too.

Alicia Dale. Slate NQ, which used to be The Lounge. It’s huge - there are three separate beer gardens, and the selection of beers on tap is really good.

Lucy Proctor. Banyan has just opened on City Square, in the old post office building. It’s a fantastic location - perfect people watching territory! The cocktail list is divine too. Not really a ‘garden’ as there’s no grass, more of a patio area really,

Michael Doe. The Lamb and Flag is a Leeds Brewery pub next to the Minster with a nice sunny terrace. Great choice of beers and a really peaceful location.

Alex Mullah. The Social on Merrion Street has a hidden beer garden which is lit by fairy lights and a bit tucked away.

Jessica Young. Greek Street looks great now it’s been pedestrianised - the road is covered in tables in the evenings and so many of the restaurants have got on board, it’s a great idea.

Mike Raymond. Angelica in Trinity is really classy and sophisticated - the terrace is popular and has stunning views. It has a London or New York vibe.

Georgia Durham. Candlebar - because it’s a round building, they have outdoor seating all around the circle. It’s lovely being by the water and the food menu is really good.

Leah Scrutton. The Restaurant has always been a favourite of mine because it’s such a good spot on City Square, but now they have an outdoor bar too it’s really exploded in popularity.

James Delaney. Kirkstall Bridge pub has a really pretty beer garden, with lots of picnic benches overlooking the river.

Sarah Henley. The Original Oak in Headingley is a huge beer garden - it used to be a bowling green so there’s so much space. It’s lively rather than peaceful and very student-y, but a great atmosphere when the sun’s out.

Tom Frapp. The Woods in Chapel Allerton is ridiculously cosy. It has cushioned sofa seats, heaters and rugs, plus a roof over part of the terrace. You can stay there long after the sun’s gone down and stay warm, and even sit there during the colder months.

Neil Symonds. The Mustard Pot has a lovely garden with lots of picnic benches and plenty of space for kids to play. It’s really lively on summer days,

Julia Maguire. A guilty pleasure but Dry Dock. Ok it’s a Scream pub so the menu isn’t great and it’s cheap, but the fact that it’s inside a boat makes up for everything. Really unique place that has great outdoor areas too.

Ava Smith. The Sky Lounge is a luxurious rooftop bar with a lovely terrace area. More of a treat than a casual drinking spot but well worth a look.

Tim Kirkpatrick. I’m a big fan of The Pour House next to the canal - it’s got a really authentic feel and is right next to the water. Plenty of outdoor space.

Zoe Rayner. Calls Landing - brilliant views over the river from the terrace. It can get very busy when the sun’s out though.
