Leeds recommends: Best place for Japanese and sushi

This week we asked the #Leedsrecommends community to suggest their best spots for sushi. With Japanese food increasingly popular and a large Asian student population, Leeds's sushi scene is thriving.

Natalie Jayne Mawson. Teppanyaki Leeds is by far the best. Fantastic food and always a great friendly atmosphere.

Louise Radcliffe. I love Wasabi 
in Trinity Leeds, but the new Itsu 
that has just opened up is even better!

Andy Scanny. Best sushi is Teppanyaki Leeds.

Matt Marshall. Teppanyaki. Been there a number of times and always have a great night.

Helen Hall. I love Teppanyaki on Belgrave Street, had a number of fantastic meals here.

Louise Fryer. I would second Teppanyaki.

Mark Cusworth. Little Tokyos surely.

Alison Goddard. Teppanyaki Leeds, fab food and service.

Umar Kotia. Teppanyaki Leeds is one of my top three.

Melanie Bairstow. Teppanyaki Leeds is the best ever.

Michael Banks. Little Tokyo, Central Road Love it there, never been disappointed!

Alex Hilton. Fuji Hiro on Quarry Hill. Food really fresh, free green tea and excellent choices, including the chilli chicken ramen.

Jessica Reeves. Fuji Hiro has been in Leeds for ages, hasn’t changed much but the food is always great. Much better than the chains.

Adam Carr. Bar Soba on Merrion Street, which also does Thai food. Generous portions and lots of choice, with a bar too.

Helen Jeffries. Wasabi on Albion Street, gorgeous food that’s popular with students. Quick service and really good value.

Muz Malik. Chino Latino on Boar Lane. Lots of different cuisines in one place, but the sushi is good.

Tom Smyth. Sushiwaka which is next to Leeds Grand Theatre. Good choice and reasonable value, although service can be slow. Recommend the bento boxes and handy for pre-theatre dining.

Alicia Conrad. Sesame has a nice salad bar with Japanese choices like teriyaki salmon and spicy noodles. Can be busy but worth waiting for.

Tim Anderson. Wasabi. Love 
the chicken yakisoba noodles. 
Really authentic with lots of hot dishes to choose from. Near Park Row so good for office lunch 
breaks.

Lydia Rainey. Juici Sushi at Bridgewater Place. Really fresh and aimed at office workers. Sandwiches have Japanese fillings and there are hot dishes as well as cold sushi. Great for a takeaway lunch.

Lisa Lyle. In Bramley there’s a place called Hana Matsuri. Huge choice of sushi but it’s delivery only as they’re more of a caterer. Worth ordering in advance though if you’re having a party.
