Leeds nostalgia: Royal Armouries Somme weekend

11am–4pm: Poppy Crafts

Free drop-in poppy-making craft sessions. All the poppies made will be added to an installation by Leeds Museums in the Chapterhouse at Kirkstall Abbey, from July 9.

11am: Blades, Bullets and Battle Bowlers

A tour of the First World War display highlighting the personal arms and armour of the fighting men.

11.30am: Trench Warfare

A talk and handling session about the weapons and tactics of the trench fighting of the First World War.

Noon: The Conscientious Objectors: 1914-18

True stories of the men, who refused to fight during the First World War, and how they were treated for taking a stand against aggression.

12.30pm: Sepoys in the Trenches

A talk on Indian soldiers and their experiences of the First World War, looking at the untold story of Sepoys on the Western front 1914-16.

1.30pm: Clay Kickers

An insight into the dangerous role played by mining engineers.
