Leeds nostalgia: Proud dad Paul shouts '˜It's a boy!' in April 1983

Proud Leeds dad Paul Murphy had to let the world know his son had arrived safe and well. So, he stuck a birth certificate in the window of his electrical services shop on Blake Grove, Chapel Allerton. The sign proclaimed: 'It's a boy: 9lb 2oz.'

Paul, 31, of Methley Place, Chapel Allerton, also placed an advert in the YEP announcing the arrival of an “apprentice electrician, Christopher”.

Mother Caroline spent seven weeks in hospital because of pregnancy complications and doctors had warned the new arrival would only weigh four or five pounds. But when Christopher arrived at St James’s Hospital, he surprised everyone.

A delighted Paul said: “When Christopher was born, I telephoned some customers but I didn’t have time to tell them all, so I put a notice up.”
