Damian Porritt, 44, was driving along the A650 in Tingley. Wakefield Coroners’ Court heard how driver Martin Hill slowed his lorry to make a legal U-turn on September 1 last year.

Mr Porritt, of Marston Avenue, Morley, was driving at 58mph in a 40mph zone and lost control. He died after sustaining a neck fracture and chest injuries. A toxicology report found that there was prescribed methadone in Mr Porritt’s system and Coroner David Hinchliff said it may have meant his senses were impaired. Mr Porritt’s sister Suzanne Porritt said her brother was “a kind, warm-hearted person.”

A verdict of road traffic collision was recorded.
