Police officers had been following the lorry Mr Mealing was travelling in prior to the collision after receiving reports that it was a stolen vehicle.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission however, following an assessment of the incident, they have decided not to pursue an investigation into what happened.

A local investigation is taking place and a report is being prepared for HM Coroner.

A 20-year-old man from Leeds was arrested at the scene of the collision on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and remains on police bail pending further enquiries.
