Leeds' largest losers are supporting Wheatfields

A Headingley hospice is challenging people to become Leeds' largest loser and help raise vital funds.

Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice is once again helping residents to stick to their new year resolutions of losing weight and getting healthy through its annual fundraising campaign.

The Leeds’ Largest Loser initiative gives those taking part ten weeks from January 25 to lose as much weight as possible to win the title. John Sheret, from Shadwell, took the crown last year. He said: “A friend of mine saw the event being advertised and we both decided to take up the challenge. Over the course of the challenge I lost 66.5 pounds in weight and raised £2,500 for Wheatfields Hospice.”

The contest costs £50 to enter and this includes a ten week membership at one of several partner gym across Leeds, as well as access to weekly classes, expert nutritional advice and motivation. The sponsorship target is £200 per person.

Eva Lake, who raised the most money in 2013, said: “Those 10 weeks truly changed my life.

“Coming up to three years later, I am fitter, stronger, faster, leaner, and infinitely happier than I was. I just wanted to thank Wheatfields for not only looking after my mum, but for starting me off on this amazing journey. For helping me change my life, and for maybe even saving it.”
