Members were transported back to the 1920’s for a Gatsby themed evening at Oulton Hall which included a Charleston dancer and a raffle with prizes ranging from a Fitbit to vouchers for shops and restaurants across Leeds. The raffle raised £485.43 for Emmaus Leeds.

Rachael Jackson, charity officer for Leeds JLD, said: “The evening was a great success, everyone really got into the swing of things and the donations from the members were extremely generous. Leeds JLD are really excited to be supporting Emmaus Leeds as our nominated charity of the year for 2017 and hope that we can help them to continue the amazing work they do for their companions and for the rest of the community. They truly are an inspiration and we are looking forward to the many other fundraising events we have planned and getting our members involved.”

Earlier this month Leeds JLD also held a charity Christmas Quiz in support of Emmaus Leeds.

The event, sponsored by legal firm CapeClark, was held at Sociable Folk in Leeds and raised more than £200 for the charity.

Emmaus Leeds supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. The charity has its main community building, social enterprise and café on St Mary’s Street, and also runs two stalls at Kirkgate Market.

Donald Forrester, Chief Executive of Emmaus Leeds, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Leeds Junior Lawyers Division as their charity of the year. By the look of the pictures from their Gatsby themed ball it looks like everyone had a great time in raising funds for Emmaus Leeds.”
