Leeds hospice chiefs praise YEP readers' generosity

YEP editor Nicola Furbisher presented two cheques for £8,903 to representatives from both hospices during an event at St Gemma’s.

Tracie Harrison, of St Gemma’s Hospice, said: “It costs £450 to care for one patient for a day so this money from the Half and Half appeal will provide many days of care for patients at St Gemma’s Hospice.

“From everybody at St Gemma’s and Wheatfields hospices we would like to say a huge thank you to the YEP and all of the people across Leeds who have supported the appeal this year.”

Nicola said: “The Half and Half appeal was launched in 1982 and our readers have been giving generously ever since. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the appeal.”

The Half and Half appeal gives people the chance to remember their loved ones through our pages. For a donation, however big or small, a dedication is printed to a friend or relative.

The proceeds are split evenly between St Gemma’s Hospice in Moortown and Wheatfields in Headingley.

Earlier this month, dozens of friends and family members gathered at The Light shopping centre in Leeds for the Yorkshire Evening Post’s annual Light Up A Life Appeal carol service, which is part of the appeal.
