Leeds Flood Appeal smashes £100,000 barrier

Launched in the aftermath of the city’s devastating Boxing Day flooding, the Yorkshire Evening Post-backed appeal’s total now stands at just over £117,000.

It has had a host of individual donations from kind-hearted Leeds people as well as support from companies such as Morrisons and Burberry.

And yesterday it got another massive boost as it received a significant portion of the money raised for flood victims nationwide by readers of the Daily Mail newspaper.

Sally-Anne Greenfield, chief executive at the Leeds Community Foundation, which is co-ordinating the appeal, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has donated to the appeal and helped us reach the fantastic milestone of £100,000.

“We want to distribute this money as quickly as possible to the people who need it most.

“The Leeds Flood Relief Appeal grants scheme will allow people to gain some financial support to replace goods and rebuild their lives after the floods.”

GRANTS

Individual grants of up to £250 are available from the Leeds Flood Relief Appeal along with community grants of up to £2,000.

Applicants are also asked to give full details of their losses so that larger grants may be considered, if funds permit.

Priority will be given to households with children, older people or those with physical or learning disabilities.

Boxing Day’s flooding was the worst seen in West Yorkshire for 70 years.
