Leeds firm's £500,000 office refurbishment aimed at retaining staff

A leeds firm has spent £500,000 on an office refurbishment targeted specifically at the age range of its workers, retaining them and recruiting more.

Engage, has taken over an entire floor of Munro House (6500sq ft) which sits in the heart of the city’s new SOYO district in Quarry Hill.

In a 12 week project the work has created a gym, bike workshop and drying room for cyclists, a theatre/auditorium, virtual reality suite and secret snug.

Alex Willcocks, co-owner at Engage says making the best workspace has helped the firm, marking its tenth anniversary, have a 95 per cent staff retention rate.

He added: “When we looked at where we wanted to take Engage, the culture, the clients and the working environment, we started with talking to the team, looking at how the industry is changing and also where the talent was.

“We moved to Leeds as we felt that the talent was here and then we set out to create the perfect culture and environment for our business to flourish.

“Our workforce is mainly under 30 and typically this is a transient demographic. Therefore we’re really proud that during a time of such significant growth and change, we have maintained a staff retention rate of over 95 per cent.”

Engage is looking to grow to a team of 40 more members of staff and the design of the office has been shortlisted for the MixologyNorth17 Awards for Small Commercial Interiors Project of the Year.

The winner will be announced in December.

Mr Willcocks added: “When clients, potential clients or employees walk into the office they can instantly see what we are about and that we mean business. This is empowering and reassuring for the team.”
