A huge gap in support for bereaved parents has been revealed in research commissioned by a charity founded in memory of a city two-year-old.

Elliot’s Footprint, set up following the death of Elliot Kerslake in 2013, is this week launching a petition calling for Government action over the lack of effective help for families.

All of those questioned said they were not given the help they needed after their devastating loss.

Only 16 per cent of the professionals who were surveyed thought that child bereavement support in the city was effective, with over half of experts unaware who co-ordinated the services available.

Elliot’s mum Andrea said: “This report has proven that the current system is failing bereaved families, who just like us, are left to cope with the sudden loss of their child alone.”
