Leeds dental practice '˜made improvements'

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Rothwell Dental surgery on Butcher Lane, in July but found regulation breaches.

Now, in a newly-published report, the CQC has praised bosses at the surgery after a follow-up inspection revealed improvements had been made.

The practice provides NHS and private dental treatment to adults and children.

In its new report, the CQC said: “We found that this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations.”

Inspectors found that a series of concerns raised during the previous visit by the CQC had been addressed.

They included the surgery’s decontamination process, the cluttering of work surfaces and floors and clinical waste segregation.

There was also praise for the way the practice was now managing risk, safeguarding adults and children and securely storing dental records.

The report added: “The clinical staff were now aware of current guidelines in relation to delivering better oral health.

“Dental care records were now stored securely. Governance arrangements were improving to support the smooth running of the practice.”

However, the CQC said management and leadership at the practice still “required improvement”.

It also said bosses needed to review the training, learning and development needs of individual staff members, and review its recruitment policy and procedures.

The CQC said the practice’s team includes two dentists, three trainee dental nurses, three dental hygiene therapists and a manager.
