Apple Day will be celebrated across Leeds in October.

The month-long event involves activities like apple juicing, making toffee apples, chutneys, longest peel competitions and crafts.

There will be more than 20 such events across Leeds. The first is a fun juicing event at Otley Chevin Orchard Project between 10.30am to 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday October 7 and 8 at Jonny Lane.

Apple Day is being promoted by Helping Britain Blossom, the UK’s largest co-ordinated community orchard project. A spokesman said: “Bring along any apples or pears from your garden and you can try your hand at juicing.”

The scheme culminates with three Apple Day events on the last weekend in October.

There is an Apple Day at West Park Fields on Saturday, October 28 from 11am to 2pm on the corner of Kepstorn Road and Northolme Crescent. As well as juicing, there will be a challenge to peel the longest length of apple peel.

Killingbeck is also staging a Big Apple Bonanza on Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29 from 10am to 5pm.

Saturday will involve apple harvesting in the Wyke Beck Valley Nature Reserve, den building, wildlife spotting and games. Sunday will be spent turning the apples into juice, cider and pies with family activities and produce to take away.”

Farsley Community Orchard will also be staging an event at St. John’s Church Hall on Sunday, October 29 from 2pm to 5pm. Activities include juicing and apple crafts.
