Landscape artist is in the frame at historic Leeds house

Visitors can join the famous painter at the picture gallery within the historic Leeds house later this year.

The workshop is part of the Visioning the Landscape exhibition, which celebrates three centuries of the estate’s evolving surroundings as well as the 300th anniversary of the birth of renowned landscape designer Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown and his vision for the site.

Ashley said: “For over 50 years I have captured the Yorkshire landscape at a singular moment in time through all seasons.

“I hope people will join me to hear what inspires me to paint, my passion for the Yorkshire landscape and see how it is possible to paint a watercolour using only one colour.”

Councillor Brian Selby, Leeds City Council’s lead member for museums and galleries, said: “The spectacular grounds at Temple Newsam would be an inspiration to any artist and it’s a privilege to welcome Ashley Jackson to the house for what I’m sure will be a fascinating demonstration.”

Coun Selby added: “The house and estate are one of the city’s cultural and historical gems and this exhibition is a fitting tribute to the timeless beauty of a place that is so loved by the people of Leeds.”

The Visioning the Landscape exhibition also includes fine art, ceramics, textiles and 3D models. It will be held at Temple Newsam House until October 30.

The workshop with Ashley Jackson takes place at 11am on August 4.

Entry is free but usual admission fees to the house will apply.
