Hot stuff! Leeds restaurant's tasty return

Leeds Dock-based restaurant Mumtaz Leeds became known as Chandelier following a change in management in 2012.

Now, however, Mumtaz director Rab Nawaz has announced that he has bought the restaurant back as a going concern.

And he is delighted to have returned to the helm of the eatery, which had a £3.3m fit-out before opening in a blaze of publicity in 2009.

Rab said: “Mumtaz Leeds was a labour of love for me all those years ago and, whilst we had to make some hard decisions at the height of the recession, I never stopped believing the restaurant could be a huge success.

“I am now delighted to have personally taken back full control of the restaurant and the name has been changed back to Mumtaz Leeds.

“There have been many changes – the interior is updated, the menus are being revamped and we are looking forward to welcoming Mumtaz customers, both old and new, over the coming months.”

Mumtaz Food Industries began life in the late 1970s as a small takeaway outlet in Bradford.

Today it supplies the food halls of exclusive stores such as Harrods and Fortnum & Mason and also has a flagship restaurant in Bradford’s Great Horton Road.

Formerly known as Clarence Dock, the Leeds Dock area as a whole is currently undergoing something of a reinvention.

Plans include turning the site’s old Alea casino building into a super-flexible ‘hub’ for creative, media and technology firms.
